Course Description

eCore Math 1113 is 3 credit hour course (semester hours). It is designed to prepare students for calculus, physics, and related technical subjects. Topics include an intensive study of algebraic and transcendental functions accompanied by analytic geometry and trigonometry.

This course is delivered via Vista to your computer. It is not an asynchronous course in which you study along and complete the assignments at your own pace. This course is designed for you to learn through discussions, homework assignments, quizzes, and exams to keep you with the pace your instructor sets forth.

Course Structure: This course is divided into nine lessons. Each lesson contains an introduction, objectives for the material in that lesson, reading assignments, web content, homework assignments, discussion questions, and quizzes.

Prerequisites: It is highly recommended that you have either passed or exempted one of the following courses prior to enrolling in Precalculus, Math 1113:

   1. College Algebra
   2. Mathematical Modeling

A background or previous coursework in Trigonometry is also recommended before taking this course.

The information and instructions in this course are designed and geared towards the Texas Instruments Calculator, TI-83. The calculator tutorial supplied in this course is designed around the TI-83. Support or help from your instructor will not be provided for any other calculator. Therefore, it is in your best interest to make your calculator purchase the TI-83.

Grading Policy

Class Participation (5%)
Beginning with the second week in the course, you will be required to post weekly check-ins (in the discussion area of the course). These are graded posts and for each weekly check-in post you will earn 10 participation points. The deadline for posting each week can be found in the calendar for the course. Don't miss these important postings--if you do, then you are missing some very easy points! Moreover, there will be some "SelfTests" which will be graded and awarded participation points.

Quizzes (15%)
Each lesson contains 2 or more online quizzes. Please check the Course Calendar for the day and time the quizzes will be made available. All quizzes will remain available throughout the semester once they are turned on. You have 3 chances to complete each quiz. Do not wait until the end of the semester to take all quizzes at once. Any quiz not completed by 12:00 pm of the last day of classes will be awarded a grade of zero.

Test 1 (10% )
This is a timed online test covering Units 1, 2 & 3. This test has a deadline. If you do not take the test on the dates listed in the calendar, you will receive a grade of zero on the test.

Test 2 (10%)
This is a timed online test covering Units 4 & 5. This test has a deadline. If you do not take the test on the dates listed in the calendar, you will receive a grade of zero on the test.

Proctored Test 1 (midterm) (20%)
This test covers Lessons 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5 and will be offered at a proctored site and may only be taken on the dates as stated in the course calendar.

Test 3 (10%)
This is a timed online test covering Units 6 & 7. This test has a deadline. If you do not take the test on the dates listed in the calendar, you will receive a grade of zero on the test.

Test 4 (10%)
This is a timed online test covering Units 8 & 9. This test has a deadline. If you do not take the test on the dates listed in the calendar, you will receive a grade of zero on the test.

Proctored Test 2 (final exam) (20%)
This test covers Units 6, 7, 8 & 9 and will be offered at a proctored site and may only be taken on the dates as stated in the course calendar.

Disabilities Act

If you are a student whom is disabled as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act and requires assistance or support services, please notify your instructor.

Proctored Exam

Proctored exams are online exams taken at approved testing centers. Students enrolled in eCore courses take at least one proctored examination per course.
Log into the course to see whether the Midterm Exam, Final Exam or Both will be proctored. You are responsible for scheduling and completing your exam(s) by the deadlines.  Deadlines are provided on the eCore Calendar at http://ecore.usg.edu/courses/calendar.php.

FOLLOW THESE GUIDELINES

1. Schedule an exam time and date with the approved test site of your choice (http://ecore.usg.edu/exams/sites.php) before the deadline.
1. Take note of:
1. Name of Testing Site where you will take the exam
2. Testing Site contact person
3. Phone and email address of Testing Site contact person
2. Be advised and aware of the services that the center provides. Not all testing centers are equipped to proctor online/computer-based tests.
2. Fill out and submit the eCore Exam Request form (http://ecore.usg.edu/exams/schedule_exam.php) before the deadline in order for the eCore Testing Coordinator to send information about your exam to your actual Testing Site. YOU MUST SCHEDULE YOUR EXAM WITH THE TESTING SITE PRIOR TO FILLING OUT THE EXAM REQUEST FORM for eCore. A late fee of $15 will be charged if you fill out the request form after the deadline.
3. Print the confirmation of your request form and take it with you to the Testing Site along with your photo ID (Driver’s License or School ID) and testing/proctor fee as indicated by the Testing Site. A staff member at the Testing Site, also known as a Proctor, will check your identification and administer the exam according to the directions provided by your instructor.

Failure to take a proctored examination will result in failure of the course, regardless of the average of other grades.
